After flipping through various magazines, I ran across an advertisement for Nicotinell, a nicotine chewing gum that helps those who are smokers slowly kick their habit, ad analysis essay.


I, personally, am not a smoker, nor have I ever had the curiosity to even try a cigarette. The packaging and product design of the Nicotinell chewing gum was also nothing out of the ordinary. What caught my attention was the way the gum was being promoted. Most anti smoking ads are filled with graphic images, usually of individuals battling lung disease or other health issues. These ads demonstrate that smoking leads to a decreased quality of life, and sometimes the loss of life.


On the other hand, this ad took a completely different approach in trying to get its point across. This ad clearly is trying to make a point. If you are a smoker, quit now before your overall appearance takes a severe beating and you end up looking old and worn out. Every year, the Surgeon General releases its annual report on smoking and diseases that have a direct correlation with cigarette smoke. The health consequences for smoking can be devastating, but it seems that what happens with our overall appearance is sometimes overlooked.


Anti-smoking ads have now turned their attention to vanity as an ad analysis essay motivator for convincing the public of the harm cigarettes pose on us.
